Site on a Larger Lot for Outdoor Living and Room to Grow
As lifestyles become busier for established families with older
children, they may be ready to move up to a four bedroom home. Four
bedroom homes usually allow each child to have their own room, with a
generous Master Suite and possibly a guest room. Empty nesters may also
choose to remain in a larger home to allow for house guests as their
extended family grows.
Living on one level is still possible with a rambling Ranch home, but
four bedroom homes are traditionally two story. With more activity and
visiting friends, this layout allows for private sleeping quarters away
from the hustle and bustle of living areas. You may choose to build the
Master Suite on the main level, but within a private wing with a
luxurious master bath and sitting room. This type of home often has a
large great room with vaulted ceilings and a plan that is open to the
kitchen and a breakfast nook. Family gatherings are easier with cooking,
homework time and relaxation occurring all in one space. As four
bedroom house plans often have more square footage, there may be room
for a home office and/or separate dining room on the first floor.
Site this home on a larger lot so the family has room to enjoy the
outdoors. Build a patio at the rear for outdoor living when the weather
is nice, possibly with an outdoor kitchen, fireplace or pool. Another
reason for a larger lot is to leave room for a possible addition as the
family continues to grow. An in-law suite may become necessary or you
may want to build a retreat for guests or children returning from
college.
